I wish I'd seen it sitting there,

I really do.  It's true.  I swear!

Had I seen it on the ground

I'd have taken time to step around.

Instead I'm here in agony

Unleashing vile profanity

Whilst clutching my poor injured toe

And waiting for this pain to go.

My God! My whole foot hurts like hell!

Pain's shooting up my leg as well.

And all because I didn't look

Before a single step I took.

Next time I'll watch out down below,

I'll wear shoes everywhere I go.

I'll act with purpose and intent

To not repeat this accident.

But as the aching starts to fade

With it goes this pledge I made,

And I'll forget this woe-filled rhyme

Until I stub my toe next time...
